The canvas in front of me brings memories of a younger self, holding the brush with young passion. I try to observe not only with my eyes, as I have learned through my education, but also with my heart. I drew inspiration from the mysterious black background that sets Dave Chihuly’s wonderfully colorful sculptures. I tried various colors of paint using an expressionless black. Through painting, sanding, and repeating this process over and over, the resulting surface yielded both intended and unintended results. I tried to let go of my greed, working with gratitude instead.
