My work explores the relationship between nature, color, and the body across various mediums, including painting, sculpture, functional objects, and textiles. I make a self-defense mechanism against the objectification of Asian female bodies by integrating color and decorative patterns into body figures.
By reinterpreting images of nature’s footprint and female body, I transform these elements into vibrant expressions of abstraction. Inspired by nature’s survival tactics, aposematism, which employs visual signals like conspicuous markings or vivid colors to warn predators, I reimagine this concept as a means of reclaiming ownership of identity.
I see bodies as a dynamic space where personal identity intersects with sociocultural stereotypes, aiming to subvert attention away from societal norms surrounding female bodies while simultaneously empowering individuals to embrace their unique identities without conflict, danger, or censorship.
